Centurion: Royal Challengers Bangalore have a owner-skipper combination that knows that talent needs to be backed by intent. And the IPL side, that finished third place in this edition of the tournament, is determined to prove that they belong nowhere else but at the top of the league.
With a man like Anil Kumble at the helm of affairs, there's no denying the fact that they have a skipper who will demand more than a 100 per cent from his men. And with Vijay Mallya with the purse, there's no doubt about his ability to retain the talent that will take his side to glory.
USD 600,000 is not exactly small change and that is just the amount the Royal Challengers Bangalore have spent to retain three cracking talents - Jacques Kallis, Ross Taylor and Cameron White for the Champions League T20.
With a lineup that boasts of the likes of Rahul Dravid, Robin Uthappa, Praveen Kumar and Dale Steyn, their opening game against a Ramnaresh Sarwan-led Guyana is looking more like a cruel joke for the Caribbean team.
Apart from Sarwan, players who have represented the West Indies at the international level, middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine and opener Travis Dowlin will be invaluable to their side because of the experience factor, but with two straight wins in their warm-up games, Bangalore will intend to hand down some cricketing lessons to the Guyanese side.
The Caribbean sides best bet is their bowlers, especially spinners Davendra Bishoo and Lenox Cush, but they will have to bowl out of their skins to trouble some of the best players of spin in world cricket.
Bangalore were hugely impressive in their practice matches against the Central Districts and the Victoria Bushrangers and will take the field with a momentum that is so crucial when opening a campaign in a T20 tournament.

Calling Guyana's Caribbean T20 campaign as adventurous would be an understatement; as a look at their semi-final and final wins will tell you that Sarwan's men have learnt a handy lesson in how to control their nerves. Not only did Guyana overcome two mightier sides in T&T and Barbados in these games; they did it with extremely close margins of 4 runs and 1 wicket respectively.
This experience is sure to come handy in a format where one close game could make the difference between qualification and exit from the tournament. Sarwan would hope that the talented opening combine of Travis Dowlin & Sewnarine Chattergoon give his team a good start against Bangalore, while the presence of Narsingh Deonarine in the middle order should be useful to carry on the good work.
Jonathan Foo, the man in charge of providing the quickfire cameos, will also be crucial to Guyana's plans as will the spin trio of Lennox Cush, Devendra Bishoo and Royston Crandon. Sarwan only has one frontline pacer in Esuan Crandon to turn to and will depend heavily on the all-rounders in the squad to come to the party on the bowling front.
